Our Activities on the Occasion of World Refugee Day

08 September 2024

From June 17th to 21st, we organized a humanitarian trip to southern Dalmatia, enabling mothers with children to visit Split, Kaštel Gomilica, and Trogir. During this trip, refugees enjoyed the beauty of the Adriatic Sea and the cultural heritage of Dalmatia, providing them with a much-needed break from everyday challenges. In Split, they visited the “MI” Association and the Caritas of the Archdiocese of Split-Makarska, where they participated in workshops and social gatherings and received donations, including baby strollers for pregnant women. Marina Kaštela provided accommodation and food, making their stay an unforgettable experience.

In Zagreb, on June 15th, the Ribnjak Youth Center, organized by the Department for the Promotion of Human Rights and Civil Society, the Festival of Tolerance, and UNHCR, in cooperation with us and many other organizations, marked World Refugee Day. The full-day program in Ribnjak Park included various workshops and concerts, bringing together visitors from all over the world. We contributed to the event by organizing workshops such as making Arabic bread, tea, and coffee, and a bachata dance workshop. Particularly interesting was the creative workshop “Vyshyvanka,” which introduced the tradition of Ukrainian embroidery.

On June 10th in Zagreb, we held a “Empowerment for Employment” workshop in collaboration with UNHCR, bringing together employers and participants with the goal of strengthening the integration of refugees into the labor market. The workshop was opened by Anna Rich, UNHCR Representative in Croatia, who emphasized the importance of employing refugees for their and societal well-being. Participants shared their experiences, highlighting the importance of language learning and cultural mediation. Employers praised the work ethic and contributions of refugees to their organizations.

Additionally, on the occasion of World Refugee Day, 53 of our beneficiaries received certificates for completing A1 and A2 Croatian language courses, making a significant step towards integration into Croatian society.

These events remind us of the importance of community and support for those who have had to leave their homes, emphasizing that everyone deserves a chance for a dignified life.
