Living in Presence – Three-Day Webinars for Providers of Psychological Assistance to Refugees
17 April 2026
The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) continuously provides psychological support to refugees through various programs and meetings. Their dedication is evident in their active involvement in a network of professionals and supporting activities that enhance work in the field of psychological and psychosocial support. Recently, they participated in three-day webinars titled “Living in Presence,” organized in collaboration with experts from Croatia, Serbia, Ukraine, Germany, and Poland.
JRS has been actively collaborating with Ukrainian psychologists for years, providing support to refugees since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine. This collaboration has included various activities, such as lectures and the exchange of experiences. However, with the emergence of new challenges, such as the arrival of wounded individuals, the need to adapt the approach to providing psychological support has been recognized.
A team of Ukrainian psychologists actively engaged with soldiers, wounded individuals, and their families in various parts of Ukraine participated in the webinars. Participants joined from cities such as Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipro, and Kyiv, bringing rich experience and first-hand perspectives. The theme “Living in Presence” was highlighted as crucial, emphasizing the importance of awareness of the present moment in the recovery process. The last day of the webinars was dedicated to sharing experiences from different European countries, which allowed participants to gain a deeper understanding of each country’s context and adjust their approach to providing support.
The Jesuit Refugee Service organizes more than 700 psychological support meetings for refugees annually, clearly demonstrating their commitment to providing continuous assistance and support to those who have gone through traumatic experiences of displacement and war.
