Croatian Language Courses for the Elderly Have Started
03 April 2025

In February, we launched Croatian language courses tailored for elderly individuals under international protection. Language is often a barrier for many who come to a new environment—whether it’s navigating everyday situations, visiting the doctor, or simply conversing with others. While younger learners often acquire a new language more easily, it can be more challenging for older individuals to follow standard courses. That’s why we designed a program that adapts language learning to their needs, helping them feel more confident and connected to their surroundings.
The course is led by Dr. Zdenka Đerđ, a volunteer in her senior years, who understands the challenges faced by older individuals from her own experience. Her work in public cultural programs and puppet theater brings warmth and creativity into the classroom, making the learning process not only beneficial but also enjoyable. Through tailored methods, participants not only learn the language but also build social connections, reducing feelings of isolation and insecurity.
This program is just one of many we offer. In addition to it, we also organize Croatian language courses for levels A1, A2, and B1, as well as online English language courses. Our volunteers and teachers, eleven in total, regularly exchange experiences and adjust their approach to make learning as easy as possible for the participants.
Our goal is to provide everyone with the opportunity to learn the language and actively participate in society, regardless of age or previous education. We know that integration is not simple, but we believe that through such initiatives, we can create a community where everyone feels welcome and equal.
