Celebration of International Women’s Day

03 April 2025

On March 7th, we organized an inspiring exhibition at the Welcome Center in Zagreb in collaboration with the City of Zagreb and UNHCR, aimed at empowering refugee women and asylum seekers through creative expression.
The exhibition of paintings, jewelry, and handicrafts provided refugee women with an opportunity to showcase their talents, share personal stories, and connect with other women. “This exhibition is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together and celebrate the talents and artistic expression of refugee women. Art has a unique power to connect – it transcends language and borders, fostering understanding and unity. The works displayed here are not just inspiring artistic pieces; they are expressions of culture, identity, and creativity – a true testament to the richness that diversity brings to our communities,” emphasized Anna Rich, UNHCR Representative in Croatia.
On March 10th, in honor of International Women’s Day, we held an intercultural gathering at our JRS premises, attended by 30 women. The theme of the meeting was “Women in Literature Who Have Shaped the History of Their Country,” and Croatian librarian and collaborator on the “Learning Together” project, Romana Tanković, spoke to the attendees about the important role of women in literature. Using the example of Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić, Romana highlighted the key role women play in shaping cultural and literary heritage.
These gatherings were another opportunity to connect women from different cultures, exchange experiences, find inspiration, and continue building a stronger and more inclusive community.
