Unforgettable Summer Vacation For Our Beneficiaries

21 November 2024

Dubrovnik, July 12, 2024 – Our young beneficiaries, who gather and organize intercultural meetings throughout the year, had the opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable summer vacation at the “Gospin Dom” in Grgurići near Slano, thanks to the openness and collaboration with the parish “Gospa Velika” (Cathedral) in Dubrovnik and in cooperation with Caritas of the Diocese of Dubrovnik.

From July 1 to 12, two groups of teenagers, in two shifts, took a break from the everyday challenges of refugee life, spending time in nature and enjoying the sea. The summer program included various activities such as sports games, workshops, making new friends, interesting encounters, and getting to know the cultural heritage of Dubrovnik.

Caritas of the Diocese of Dubrovnik provided essential support in organization and logistics, ensuring that every participant felt a warm and friendly welcome. The “Gospin Dom” in Grgurići offered a safe and comfortable environment for the teenagers’ stay.

“This vacation is not just an opportunity for rest, but also for strengthening the sense of community among young people who have gone through various life challenges. We hope that this experience will be the foundation for future projects that will further enrich the lives of young refugees,” said Ana Marčinko, head of the Jesuit Refugee Service.

This initiative is an example of how the joint efforts of church and civil organizations can create positive changes in the lives of young refugees, providing them with hope and support during difficult times. This summer vacation will remain a lasting memory for all participants, both for the natural beauty they experienced and the human kindness they encountered.
